That sheriff is too awesome. And the supergirl is crazy hot.
First of all, those are some dead awesome sketches. My favorite is the top one. I completely love the way you ink/shade things. And I like that the guy's got one sleeve (or side of his shirt, as it were) completely gone.
Nice Supergirl, too. I like the pose, and the eyes and hair. I'm not up on my Supergirls, so I frankly don't know what the current one's even like, but this one's good.
The current Supergirl has a little belly shirt and is drawn by Ian Churchill. She looks like a club kid. I don't like that because I have a lingering crush on the original Supergirl from the sixties, and the current one doesn't seem like someone I'd like to know at all. She needs to be cuter and more wholesome!
Your Supergirl looks very Portlandy to me for some reason. Excellent drawing.
Dude-- Why do you think I live here?
Ha, I was going to say that I see girls that look like Supergirl all the time here. So Portland.
Les, Les, Les. I love that Supergirl. Can I put her on my website and give you all the credit in the world?
(And yes, I love the Western Characters too, but c'mon, it's Kara...)
Why, certainly. Last time you linked to me I got HUGE HITS!
Awesome. She'll go up sometime tomorrow. She's so awesome!
I love the short hair on Supergirl, hehe!
love that third one especially -- I think the next official 24-hour comic day is in October? I'd love to see these guys in a story!
October? Ohhh... by then I'll probably have forgotten all about my idea. Maybe I ought to have my own 24-hour comics day. With clowns! And a trained bear!
It used to be April 24th, you could always do it then! We got some people together to do it then last year even though the official day had already switched...I actually ended up doing a comic for the april day, but only attempting one and finishing it later for the october one.
I will remind you, because this looks interesting and I think you should do it. I could call you on the phone or fly out to Portland and poke you repeatedly.
I sense a new meme approaching!
That Supergirl is so cute. I LOVE the hair. That is some of the best hair I've seen since Ramona Flowers. It would be so practical for flying, too!
Cool, cool, cool, cool and cool! Awesomeness all around!
Man, that second one of the big dude, with the vest on, so awesome. I keep thinking that the kid in the first drawing has his arms folded on top of the trunk he's carrying though. Then I get confused.
re: arms folded. ME TOO!!!
also, supergirl is supercute. A+
HAHAHA. I thought the same thing about the kid with his arms at first, too!
Then I studied it for a few minutes and realized he's holding the trunk. :P
I guess I shouldn't have put that fold in the middle of the bedroll. Live and learn!
Those Western characters are pretty amazing. Especially the big guy.
And, Supergirl is super hot. I'm not much of a comic book reader [yeah, I should be shot, I know, I know. I've got some Marvel comics, though. Never had any DC, so I don't know what to compare her to.], I've basically only seen Supergirl on the Saturday morning cartoons. This one looks nothing like her. This one's like a real [cute] teenage girl, and not a fake little girl.
As for the 24-hour comic day thing, I think it should be once a month, at least. Like the first of each month, or the second Tuesday of each month, or something along those lines.
It may be because I read too much Cracked as a kid, but I see a little John Severin in those western characters. I'd love to read that comic if you do it.
You know what's weird? I was sort of thinking of Severin's western work when I was first thinking about this, but decided to go in a different direction with the sketches. Maybe I didn't move as much away from it as I thought?
I don't think there's a lot of similarity - just a little bit. I may not have made a connection if I hadn't been exposed to so much Severin as a kid.
Dig that sheriff!
Supergirl's outfit looks a little out-of-date to me. You should make her outfit look even more like what the kids are wearing these days
. ;-P Actually, that might be rather amusing now that I think about it...
Damn kids with their baggy pants and grocery-bag shirts...
excellent supergirl, les! the cool younger sister kinda vibe is really rocking here. i also just love how you handle fabric.
it's funny, i've been working on a new sg pic this week to kick off a meme, but yours is a great starting point already! i'll try to finish my new one up tonight. :D
SUPERGIRL MEME IS GO.http://dryponder.livejournal.com/103442.html
But someone on newsarama says "I hate the hair."
bah! i think it's cute, and it really sets your version apart.
guess you can't please everymelon all the time.
I just think girls with short spiky hair are cute! Is that so wrong?
Hey, the hair is my favorite part! (Besides maybe the pose. And possibly the skirt...)
The indian looks like your style mixed w/ Joe Kubert's.
I don't know, that's how I see it.
I can see it. This new brushpen is doing strange things to my work and I kind of like it.
I'm sorry what type of brush pen are you messing w/ again?
I got the Faber-Castell 4 PITT "artist pen" Black set.
They come w/ the following sizes:
Small, Fine, Medium, and Bold.
The Bold has a sorta brush tip on it. I'm hesitant to use this pen only for a strip or panel, as I'm already getting nailed on not having enough "depth" and "line variation". Any excercises or tips?
That first illustration has so much fun drawn into it, I don't know if it's legal. I want to learn more about those dudes!
Well, that's a stagecoach driver and his son, and they're walking across the desert. All I've got so far is a few images I want to use that I have to build a story around.

I've been drawing Supergirl all week, trying to put something I don't hate together for the meme. Every time I get discouraged, I come back here to see what I should be striving for.
Several days later, you still have the best Supergirl in that new meme. Like you said, cute and wholesome is what counts here.
I love your supergirl!
That is how she is in my head too, not the Paris Hilton reject they are making her out to be.
your take on supergirl is just too cute. i love her hair.
Lovely as always. I just finally did a supergirl myself.
